Q. I'm only familiar with ______ fandom. Can I still vote?
A. Absolutely! The "Best of Fandom" ballot will allow you to choose only those fandoms you feel comfortable voting in. It is requested, however, that you not vote in the "Best Overall" round unless you have read all the stories on the ballot.
Q. Do stories have to be written entirely within the contest year in order to be eligible?
A. No, stories need only be completed within the appropriate year to be eligible for the "Best of Fandom" categories. They can have been started in any year, as long as they were finished within the contest year.
Q. What about revised stories?
A. Revised versions of older stories may be eligible for the UFO Awards if they:
- Have never been nominated for the UFOs before, in any year
- Have been entirely revised, that is, every chapter must have undergone a revision and that fact must be noted somewhere in each chapter so the administrator can verify it
- Have completed their revisions within the appropriate calendar year.
Revised fanfics are not eligible for the "Works in Progress" category unless they were still incomplete when revisions began.
Q. How are the votes weighted?
A. During the first round of voting, you can select your top three choices for each fandom category. Your top choice will receive three points, your second choice two points, and your third choice one point. The score for each story will be added to a running total. At the end of the voting period, the three stories of each fandom with the highest scores will receive first, second, and third place awards.
In the "Works in Progress" category, you can select all of the stories you think deserve an award. Each story you select will receive one point. At the end of the voting period, the "Works in Progress" stories will be ranked according to their total score, and the top ten will receive Honorable Mention awards.
The votes of .moon members have the same weight as the votes of non-members, but member votes are duplicated into a separate tally that will be used to determine the Members' Choice winners. The Members' Choice scores are calculated in the same way as the main fandom category scores, but using only the votes of .moon members.
Q. How do I ask a question that's not on this list?
A. Contact the administrator.
