Author's Comments:

You might call this a sort of prequel to "The Exiles" - but only in thematic terms. The names have been changed - with one exception - and this is more romantic than "Exiles".

I actually read this a while back, but I don't think I ever left a review. It's one of the few stories that's really stuck with me; almost haunting.

What really gets to me is Aya's description of death as a cleansing process, providing wisdom at the same time as a release from the painful memories. Combined with the 'morphine allergy', it suggests that the four of them might never be free from the memories that follow them.... I think it is very much a romance in the classic se... (more)
