I like this. It's been a while since reading your first version, so this is kind of a surprise. At some point, will have to go back and check and find the differences between the two!
This is a very innovative idea. Blatantly AU, and yet with a truly plausible explanation for the AUness. I keep channeling Wizard of Oz..."You were there, and you were there..." ^_^
Yusuke is nicely in character, yet appropriately muted by the situation. I'm having so much fun guessing who's who, and Toguro as grandad is awesome!
The only nitpicky thing I have is you might want to go back and reread for typos. There were a few here and there. Nothing huge, just little things. If you don't have time, or just don't feel like it, but would still like it done, I'd read through for you... Just an offer.
Reading this bends my mind a little. It's all twisted inside out, in a really good way. Like holding two mirrors up to each other and having an infinity of reflections. Very cool idea!
